Son, We Gave This a Lot of Thought.

We're chatting at the bar of Harry Ramsdens at Mermaid Quay, in Cardiff. Waiting for our fish and chips.

Tickersoid, "So your ex husband is Jewish?"

English Rose, "No, what made you think that?"

Tickersoid, "Your son's name, Aaron."

English Rose, "Oh......well...... you see, we were expecting a girl. She was going to be Rebecca. When he turned out to be a boy, I picked up the book of names, looked under boys and Aaron was the first one."

Yes, I know Rebecca is also a jewish name, but If she'd said, "We just liked the name." It wouldn't have been funny.

Pink Drama- I think it's funny because she only got as far as the first name in the book and thought that'll do. Such a contrast to how most people spend hours choosing.

Jungle Jane- I guess Aaron might have felt even less loved had he been named after a particularily ugly ant eater.

Is Aaron a Jewish name in the UK?

I don't know, stop with the questions already!

The Jewish folk of old have come up with some of the best names ever. Here's a prime example: Mordecai. If you name your son Mordecai, he'd better grow up to be a wizard, or a supervillain or something, else you're not going to be able to help but feel shortchanged!

Levi is automatically cool, and somewhat laid back thanks to the denim connection.

Tobias is another gem - should I help generate a son at some point, that will be his name. Should a girl spring forth, she shall be Emily (not a Jewish name).

I'm not Jewish, I just know a good name when I see one! Mine is Lawrence, which is a shit and irritating name, particularly if, as a child, you slur your esses.

I got it Tick. Very practical thinking on her part. I myself chose my son's name from a book. I made it to the Js.

That's so great, and it is indeed lucky that Aaron was the first name. At least it's a good one.

My friend Tim went to Aberdeen Uni for much the same reason - it appears first in the UCCA handbook.

she should have named the child after the city he was conceived in. like witchita, seattle, pontypool.

or the car he was conceived in.
buick, miata, ford, chevy.

Loz- Good observations. Lawrence is fine.

Piss Off- Full marks for perciverence.

Snooze- Yes everyone seems to like Aaron.

Qenny- Hmmm, might have been better if he'd taken travelling time into consideration.

the fifth floor- What?

Emmak- Oh right, so Elvis was jewish then?;-)

Pink Drama- I'm not so sure Slough is a good name. Morris Minor might work.

Old Knudsen- You may be right. Perhaps named after the Irish/jew that first knitted one.

loz: the most evil and psychotic woman I know is both an Emily and a jewish person. the name emily should therefore be shunned for that reason alone and an apology made to the Jews.
The 'Aaron' in Elvis' name was misspelled 'Aron' on his headstone, leading many to believe that means he still moves among us, incognito (which is a kind of tiny car that fat hillbillies drive.)

it makes sense to me Tickers. After spending months trying to find a boys name that my husband and I both liked (we could only come up with two), it sounds appealing to just pick it out of a book!

I thought long and hard about the naming of my kids.

At least she is not like my godmother. Her husband's name is Robert, so she has a Robert, Jr., Robuel, and Robphel. The middle names are Geborluis, Gevoisier, Geocharlious. Yeah...I almost vomited in my mouth when she told me.

Jungle Jane- Firstly, congratulations on the new avitar. If English Lady didn't think enough about this, then you thought far too much ;-)

Kyah girl- So how do you come up with a name like Kyah?

Awaiting- I picked good names. Not due to my naff selection process. I was lucky.

actually 'kyah' is based on Kaja, the name of a Danish girl I worked with years ago :-)
