The life, thoughts and tales of an ageing, immature steelworker, living in the little Welsh village of Pontnewynydd.

I'm 55 years old and this is the worst recession I've ever seen. 'History in the making', as one of my drinking buddies said.
I know I've been lax about posting of late, but if the current climate continues, I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to write. I may even get a dog on the end of a piece of string and sell the, 'Big Issue'.
This all started back in '68 when half of my cohorts abandoned Peace, Love and Understanding and morphed into Yuppies.
Darwinian Capitalism may be fine and dandy in it's purest form but our Neo-Conglomerates do not operate under such pretense. They suckle at the government's sagging teat and the only thing trickling down in our mixed Economy is their piss and disdain.
For the record I am an avowed Marxist (Groucho) Lennonist (John) and have no qualms about sticking it to the Man.
TGF- Funny you should say that. I was talking to one of my old plant managers about a month ago, and he was saying that the only area of expansion was the tin can industry.
Don Coppens- I see you were on the same drugs as m'self in the '60's. It's all very well having an economey based on people 'living the lie', but if you suddenly pull the rug from under them, everything stops.
Lippy- If you remember Maggie cutting back on public spending, you'll recall there was a lot of 'fat' to trim in those days. Not so much of it today.
Qchique- I've always been a huge fan of your naked wiles.
The tin mill that I have carnal knowledge of is running at 100% capacity for the food industry. The reason being that people are stocking up on foods that will last awhile. That can't be a good sign.
Well, I'd like to be positive and think we'll work through this and come out much stronger. I'm a firm believer that things do happen for a reason.
The new administration plans to spend on public works, rebuilding infrastructure. That'll help re-ignite the economy with demand for raw materials and supplies.
I manage a multi million $$ property, and I fully expect I may be checking groceries (please god) within 6 months. Or driving a paper route. Or greeting people at WalMart.

I'm guessing that your mill is idle?
Have you taken up discus throwing?
TGF- It is indeed, with no plan to start up for months and, as far as I know, nothing confirmed in the order book.
MJ- No, I was at a bit of a loss for an illustration to accompany this short post. In the end I decided to fall back on a naked body.
Yeah, it's the same here in the US. Half of the country's blast furnaces are down and the only thing that's selling is tin plated sheet.

Thanks, I feel much better now.
It's different from 92 and 80, in lots of ways. Not time yet to make any decisions about how it's different , just observe and reflect.
Ah yes naked pictures go good with any post, trust me I know. Good luck to us all!

Can I apply for the position of 'dog on string' ???
Can I apply for the position of dog walker?
Beast isn't house-trained, by the way.
TGF- They are also using cheep tinned foods which are cheeper than chilled foods and even cheeper than cooking from scratch with foods that degrade.
Beast- You need to look well cared for but sad.
MJ- Certainly not! I'm going to be time rich and money poor.
I didn't know that about Beasty.

I think this time it could last for quite a few years, but I feel my rioting days are over.
Eroswings, I'm with Frobi' on this one. I think it's going to last years.
These are frightening times.

And I'll be grateful for the work.
Snooze- As the saying goes, it's a great life if you don't weaken.
Plegmfatale- We don't have greeters at Asda (British WalMart) Us Brits would find them annoying.
Cute bod!!
