Walk.

Instead of turning right to walk to the shops, I turn left. It's late afternoon on a beautiful Autumn day. I climb the road up the mountain traveling West. It's lined with crumbling drystone dikes and forest carpeted in golden leaves. I take in the musty earth smells of the forest. I hear birdsong and waterfalls. By climbing, I stop the sun from setting.
Muscles tingle, endorphins caress my mind.
Farmhouses in stone and white wash. Fields of horses, cows and sheep.
Leaving the road, I find the mountain top, and stand in the octagonal brick ruins of a WWII observation turret. Cloud has formed and the setting sun is little more than a slash of orange above the distant mountains.
During the decent, village lights start to twinkle. The twilight adds a new perspective to the previous beauty.
I've been walking for three hours. No mobile phone or MP3.
Maybe next time I'll take a camera.
I could have gone to they gym but it wouldn't have eased my soul like this.

Lovely walk - I am on a walking mission today too, but as I'm working in the smoke it's a case of, Old Street, Grays Inn Road, Holborn, Chancery Lane. Sounds more like a game of monopoly than a walk!

Awaiting- Most of the time we are so focused on life we fail to see the beauty all around us.

Lippy- London has so much beauty and history. Just look above the shop line and there it is.
It also has the underground system, which means you can get totally off your face and still get home for a reasonable price.....or continue around the circle line until you wake up.

Beast- I noticed the mountain also produces a rich harvest of magic mushrooms for those who like that sort of thing.
Not to mentions the, 'not magic but quite entertaining in their own right mushrooms.'

I like walking through the neighbourhoods of Toronto, but envy your scenic walk. That sounded lovely.

I- Although it's quite a poetic phenomena, it does mean you're always walking with the sun directly into your eyes.

Qenny- Nice of you to pop bye. It was quite magical in it's own way. I also noticed many other paths I've not investigated.

Beast-...black pudding, plumb tomatoes, sausages.

Snooze- We are quite blessed here, the scenery is stunning but house prices remain low by UK standards.

Wow, that is quite an achievement - I can't imagine walking a few hours without the 'need' to listen to my iPod or calling people... but I really should give it a try!

Oh, and one more thing, you should give me some advice on the latest topic I posted on my blog. I'm a little lost :$

wow - that's lovely - I'm so glad to finally have reliable internet service again so I can check up on you - but it sounds like you're doing well. Walks like this can be so much more restorative than boring hours spent at the gym. Good for you.

You sure have been walking for a long time. Lost, are you?

I'd offer to get on the broom and come and get you, but this damp air plays havok with the bristles. You'll have to find your own way home!

Its one of those things where yes, your camera would have been nice...but if you were busy taking pictures, would you have taken the time to appreciate your surroundings as much?

(hmmm.)
